IT’S OCTOBER!!!!  Now that we have officially arrived at the spooky season, I’ve been raging some of my favorite horror flicks! One particular movie may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a must watch every year! Killer Klowns from Outer Space… ! This cult classic, horror-comedy is a staple in my household every spooky season. A tribe of murderous clowns visit earth in their circus tent spaceship using some pretty odd weapons to murder teenagers.

I know what you’re thinking… Who could possible be afraid of clowns… Though in this movie, they aren’t actually clowns! They are extraterrestrials disguised as clowns.

Their goal is not only to murder but to harvest humans to use as sustenance, using cotton candy cocoons as a means of harvesting humans.

The movie’s title was to originally to be just Killer Klowns, though filmmakers felt the audience would assume this film to be a slasher movie, so they added the words from Outer Space.

Of course to create the ‘circus’ environment, the movie was filmed in Santa Cruz, California at the Beach Boardwalk amusement park! Filming also occurred in Watsonville, California, just a few miles from Santa Cruz. I spent some time living in Santa Cruz and made it a point to visit the familiar locations that appeared in the movie!

My all time favorite part of the movie would be the weapons the clowns used. Specifically the popcorn gun the clowns used.

Did you know…. It was an actual weapon that included a compressor to literally propel popcorn. It was the most expensive prop used in the movie, with a cost of $7000.

If you haven’t seen this horror-comedy by now, you must be living under a rock! Definitely add it to your list this spooky season!
